it’s easy to poke the bear
when she is sleeping and
is it smart, tell me, is
it wise?

she might throw you across
the room and that is assuming
you’re poking an inside bear.

I would throw you if I were
that bear. I would throw you
up and down and back and
around and that might just
be my impulse to launch things.

Like a child, i can throw stones
too, into a river, or lake, all
the live long day and the water
doesn’t get mad that there are
heavy objects being hurled.

It doesn’t experience that
sweet feeling of rejection.
And why should the ocean be
humbled? She has worked far
too hard and long and up
and down and back and around
to be anything but big.

and if a bear is the weakened
heart, then yes, poking her
would only get you better
acquainted with the room.
A room and all its edges,
the floor, the ceiling, the
corners, the nails sticking
all the way up.
But that is assuming you’re
poking an inside bear.
